Shoulder pain · Redditch
Whether it is a gradual loss of range, sharp pain when reaching overhead, or the kind of ache that sets in after training, shoulder pain is one of the most disruptive presentations Reece sees. It is also one of the most successfully treated.
Book Your AssessmentTypes of shoulder pain
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which makes it inherently vulnerable to both acute injury and overuse. Problems can originate in the joint itself, the rotator cuff muscles and tendons, the surrounding bursae, the acromioclavicular joint, or be referred from the neck and upper back.
Common presentations include rotator cuff tears and tendinopathy, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), shoulder impingement syndrome, acromioclavicular joint pain, and instability including the kind that develops after repeated dislocations. Reece also sees a significant number of shoulder problems related to bench pressing, overhead lifting, martial arts, and racket sports.
Symptoms
Treatment
Reece assesses the shoulder, neck, thoracic spine, and scapular mechanics together, because shoulder problems rarely exist in isolation.
Soft tissue work, joint mobilisation of the glenohumeral and acromioclavicular joints, and thoracic spine treatment to improve overall shoulder mechanics.
For athletes and gym-goers, Reece builds a return-to-loading plan that progresses safely and avoids re-aggravation.
